Group Details For AAP - Art Appreciation

Group Description :

Art is something that stimulates a person’s thoughts, emotions, beliefs or ideas through the senses.

Last year we gathered a collection of topics that could be part of a monthly group meeting. We have looked mainly at paintings but graphic design, sculpture and photography are equally relevant.

Our aim is to encourage group members to contribute to the sessions and help take ownership of the course they are attending. The content of the programme is largely dictated by the group and their interests

During the year we would encourage you to chat about a piece of art that you like, or choose something from of our list of topics, and talk about it. We are very flexible about what you do.

Session one (before a refreshment break) is always longer than session two and tends to be a broader presentation rather than talking about a specific piece of art.

This term is pretty well covered for speakers so there is no rush for you to volunteer . . . and you don’t have to do it if you think it is too challenging. We are tame people :)

I am quite happy to work with anyone to create a presentation and help you to present it. We know that some of us have done more presentation work than others but it would be nice to hear something from everyone :) All of our thoughts are valid.

We aim to develop our understanding and appreciation of the styles, skills and techniques of artists from different cultures, historical periods and movements. Our goal is to be able, when we see great art, to know better how and why it affects us..
